When Google developed Panda in 2011, it revolutionized the way online businesses, internet marketing companies, and Search Engine Optimization companies conducted business and drew online traffic to their sites. Many websites saw a dramatic loss of rankings in just the first roll out of Google Panda, their proprietary website ranking algorithm.
The goal of Google Panda was, and continues to be, to lower the rankings of websites with poor quality information, and raise the rankings of websites with high quality, non-repetitive information. Google Panda started with actual human evaluation of websites and then trained the algorithm to look for the items that humans found important, trustworthy, and poor.

Google recently announced they were reconsidering the link evaluation part of the Google Panda algorithm.
